Hi, I’m Gardenia.

Gardenia, the groomer and owner of Fresh Tails.

My story

Like many immigrants, I came to the United States with a career and professional experience from my home country, but also with the challenge of starting over and finding my way in a new place.

When I arrived, I didn’t know how to drive, so I looked for a job I could reach by bicycle. That’s how I found a position as a grooming salon assistant at a nearby pet store. I knew nothing about professional dog grooming at the time, but sometimes the most unexpected opportunities lead us exactly where we’re meant to be. That little bike ride introduced me to what would eventually become one of my greatest passions.

When I began grooming in 2016, I quickly fell in love with the craft. It gave me a way to combine creativity with something I truly cared about, helping dogs feel comfortable, confident, and happy.

After working in a corporate salon, I knew I wanted to create a different kind of grooming experience, one where each dog’s comfort and well-being came first. Although my professional career later took me to New York, the dream of having my own salon stayed with me.

When the pandemic brought me to Gainesville, I began grooming dogs staying with us for boarding. That small beginning eventually became Fresh Tails.

Since then, I have continued developing my skills through professional training in the U.S. and abroad, including hand-stripping in Spain with Luis Martín del Río, the Product Manager of Artero, studied creative grooming with Tania Jesús in Peru, my mentor and dear friend, and continued my education through professional seminars and workshops in the United States.

At Fresh Tails, I work with one dog at a time, giving each pet my full attention, patience, and care. I especially enjoy working with puppies, seniors, and dogs who have had stressful grooming experiences.

My goal is for Fresh Tails to become a trusted reference for grooming in Gainesville, known for compassionate care, quality work, and a thoughtful approach that always puts the dog first.

For me, grooming is more than a haircut. It’s about building trust, creating a calmer experience, and helping every dog look and feel their best.
